Manor Barn

2010 Oxford, UK.

The Manor Barn project is a design and feasibility study for a private client in Oxfordshire. The development is on the site of an existing stone barn, of which one wall remains intact. The brief was to create an individual family home with a large entertaining space.

A single storey living/dining/kitchen space occupies the higher ground to the North of the site. This space is glazed on the remaining three sides. A two storey dwelling containing four bedrooms and a multi purpose space occupy this zone. The materials are complimentary to the existing context of the site. The aim is to create a language of ‘Rural Modernism’, forms are simplified and materials used are reduced to a simple palette.
