Kings Road Tower

2018 Hong Kong.

Kings Road Commercial Tower is an invited competition for the design of a 45,000 M2 office in the Causeway Bay District of Hong Kong’s CBD. The concept was driven by the idea of keeping a pure form, dividing it into four distinct masses which form a dynamic relationship to each other. The primary volume is the podium, this is to house a large flexible event space, the whole segment is lifted above the street front visually by using solar fins as a wrapping feature.

The street level echoes the surrounding cityscape, with a solid stone and glass form, this anchors the building into the street with a heavy, solid character. Above this the tower rises up with first the lateral emphasis of the podium, then the rotated vertical blocks. These vertical components reflect the podium, taking it up into the skyline, giving the design as a whole an energy and a relationship to the strata of the adjacent towers. The three sperate elements of the tower also communicate the interior use of the space, with the premium office area housed in its own block at the top of the tower.
